SHORT GAME AREA UPDATE: Open For Practice Beginning May 22nd
Over the past few weeks, the Golf Operations Team has been monitoring usage of the 19th Hole (Short Game/Practice Area) and has observed minimal use. The survey sent out last week confirmed that over 95% of our membership prefers that we bring back the Short Game/Practice Area for regular use.
Effective Thursday, May 22nd, the Short Game/Practice Area will be open to all members at any time. No pre-booking is required, and we kindly ask that members be safe and respectful when sharing the area with others.
Please note: The Short Game/Practice Area will still be closed when used as the 18th hole for corporate events, Club Championships, and priority will be given to clinics and lesson programs. Closure dates will be posted online in the Member Update area next to the Clean Pick schedule starting Thursday, May 22nd.

Hole #7 is still CLOSED for play. Hole #7 nearly complete and will be finished this week. Holes #6 and #8 are next up and will be worked on in combination to ensure water access to key areas like greens and tee boxes. Please make sure to check in with the Pro Shop/First Tee Hosts before play to know what areas are out of play.

Hole #12 still remains in recovery. Please respect on-course signage and do not move coloured pin flags - these mark important installation points. Some areas may require new sod if growth does not progress.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ'S)
Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. For a complete list, please refer to the full FAQ section at the bottom of this section.
Construction will begin in April 2025 and be completed by the end of the season. Among all proposals, this approach provided the lowest project cost, minimized scheduling and execution risks, and reduced the impact on member play.
The work will be performed under a fixed-price contract, meaning HNT is responsible for delivering the project at the agreed-upon cost, which aligns with the Club’s shareholder-approved budget. Additionally, as HNT’s sole major project in 2025, Silver Springs will receive their full attention and resources to ensure efficient and timely completion.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Project History and Shareholder Vote
The Irrigation Replacement Project represents a significant investment to ensure Silver Springs continues to offer exceptional golf course conditions and memorable experiences for our members for years to come.
With overwhelming support from over 90% of shareholders, this project has been carefully planned and vetted by the Board of Directors, Committees, and Management Team, who have invested significant time, effort, and ongoing due diligence for the Project.
Contractor Selection Process
As a result of this process, Silver Springs is pleased to announce the award of the Project construction contract to Calgary-based HNT Services Ltd.
HNT Services and our Irrigation Consultant, Frank Russell, successfully completed a similar project at the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club on schedule and within budget in 2024, where 18 holes remained open to member play during construction.
Silver Springs has an established relationship with HNT, who successfully completed our Pumphouse Project in 2022. The company has a mandate to only take on a single major project in a season, which will be our Project in 2025. HNT’s Site Superintendent will be Joel Thur, former Assistant Superintendent at Silver Springs. Their team’s knowledge of our golf course, relationship with team members, combined with their reputation for delivering successful projects, will be instrumental in ensuring a successful outcome.
Project Construction, Timing, and Impact to Member Play
Irrigation replacement will start in April of 2025 and the Project is targeted for completion at the end of this season. Among all the proposals, this option provided the lowest project cost, minimized schedule and project execution risks, and reduced impact on member play during construction.
The construction plan has been designed to prioritize member play by closing only one hole at a time, ensuring that 18 holes remain open throughout the construction process by utilizing the short game area as a temporary additional hole.
As the Club works with HNT Services on a more detailed project execution plan, we will be able to assess what specific impacts that the Project will have on member play, events and tournaments. This will include protocols for advising members daily on the status of construction and what hole is out of play.
Funding Sources
The funding is based on structuring, financing, and reporting the Irrigation Replacement Project as a standalone project. The cost breakdown consists of 50% financed by bank debt, and 50% from club equity. The funding model for the Project consists of three (3) financing sources:
1. Shareholder Assessment: Each Shareholder pays a $1,500 assessment, $500 per year over 3 years.
2. Facility Improvement Fee: Provides ~ $400,000 per year in capital reserve. Would continue as $50/month per shareholder, and proportionate amounts to remaining members.
3. Bank Debt: Proposed interested rate is 7% with a 15-yer term. Recommend two years of available debt servicing surplus over the first four years of the Project.
