master plan:
Silver Springs Golf and Country Club
Club Vision:
To be the club of choice by enriching our members' lives through exceptional service, outstanding golf course conditions, and a culture of inclusion and continuous improvement.
PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS: AUGUST 9, 2024
Dear Members,
I hope everyone has been enjoying a warm summer of golf. I would like to thank the Silver Springs team for successfully executing many major events during the past month while continuing to deliver spectacular course conditions.
While the work of running the Club has been busy, our Board and its Committees have also been very active this spring and summer working on the Club’s future. I wanted to provide all members with an overview of where we are at and what to expect in the months ahead.
The Board of Directors remains committed to investing in the future of Silver Springs and ensuring we have an exceptional Club for decades to come. Replacing our aging irrigation system remains our top priority.
The Board set up a project team, led by Vice President Rod Maier, to evaluate the irrigation project from last year and conduct due diligence and a financial review to understand our path forward in 2024. That team is still doing work to finalize the project details that we will bring back to members, as this project is more than $250,000 and requires the approval of two-thirds of voting shareholders to proceed.
The work is progressing well, and our current plan is to bring the irrigation project to members for a vote this fall. Once the final project details have been confirmed, we will be communicating with members in various ways, including a town hall and complete project details on the member website. We will communicate the timing of all the ways you can learn about the project later this month.
Earlier this summer, we hosted a session with Gary Browning to share the 10-year master plan for the golf course. Updating a plan for our Club prior to a major capital project like irrigation with an industry-leading architect is best practice to ensure that we have a road map for future investment. The document that Gary has created is a guideline for improvements to our Club, and it will be the Board of Directors and Club Committees that determine which projects will be undertaken, how they will be funded, and when they will take place.
I want to highlight to all members that the vote this fall will be on irrigation only. While the Club may undertake some elements of the master plan during the irrigation construction, those projects have not been determined. Any project that the Club may consider doing during the irrigation construction will be evaluated against the following criteria:
- Will the project be more cost effective to do now vs. later
- Will the doing the project now help future course availability
- Will the project address a fundamental course deficiency
- Will the project improve the member experience
The financing options and implications for members for the irrigation project are currently being reviewed and finalized, and that will be part of the project communication that will be shared soon. All other course improvement projects that will be considered during the irrigation build will be funded through our existing revenues, and there will be no incremental funding request to members for these upgrades.
Our Board remains steadfast in our commitment to investing in the future of the Club. We will be engaging with all members soon on our plans and look forward to your comments and feedback.
